King Charles made an unplanned, delightfully human stop in Harlem and left locals smiling. Read on to discover the full story!

A royal in the city

On April 29, 2026 around 2 p.m., the King paid a solo visit to Harlem Grown, the nonprofit urban farm. Tony Hillery, founder and CEO, greeted him as members of Harlem Grown and students from Thurgood Marshall Lower Academy guided the monarch past raised beds, a greenhouse, a tool shed, composting stations, chicken coops and bee hives in the middle of a city block.

A cheeky compliment and a royal reply

During the tour a child blurted, "I like your hair," to which King Charles replied, "Do you? Good." The King was enthusiastic about feeding the chickens — a pastime he keeps back in the U.K. (his flock resides in a coop dubbed Cluckingham Palace) — and Hillery eventually had to coax him away to continue the visit.
