Allegations against the estate

The filings accuse Biffle, named as sole owner of the Cessna Citation 550, of failing to keep the plane airworthy, neglecting maintenance and inspections, and not ensuring a properly qualified crew. The complaints state Jack Dutton, while licensed, was not qualified to act as second-in-command on that aircraft.

On Dec. 18, 2025, the jet tried to return to Statesville Regional Airport after reported technical problems and crashed during the landing attempt at about 10:15 a.m. Seven people aboard died, including Biffle (55), his wife Cristina (35), their children Emma (14) and Ryder (5), family friend Craig Wadsworth and the two pilots. The National Transportation Safety Board reported the plane experienced trouble after takeoff, crashed on the runway and later caught fire; the NTSB is investigating.
