Feathered ambassadors steal the show

The event featured a bald eagle named Buddy, an ambassador cared for after a 2008 beak injury, and a 19-year-old Harris hawk, Cuervo, whose demonstration took an unexpected turn when the bird veered into rangers. Earlier the King had greeted a line of junior rangers, wishing each child "Good luck, have fun."

Memories and respect

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Museum historian Mark Madison showed photos from a 1970 visit when Charles was Prince of Wales; the King reminisced about that trip, asked many questions and listened closely to conservation staff, leaving a charming impression.
