A Royal Tradition Repeats

Kensington Palace confirmed in June that 13-year-old Prince George will move from Lambrook to Eton College, following the same route his father took three decades earlier. With classes set to begin last week, it’s expected that Prince William and Kate Middleton accompanied George for his first day and the school rituals that come with it.

Scenes from William’s First Day

On Sept. 6, 1995, cameras caught Prince William signing the registration book while both his parents, the future King Charles and Princess Diana, stood nearby despite their separation. Prince Harry was also present. William later posed with family and his new housemaster, Dr. Andrew Gailey, who began at Eton in 1981 and retired in 2021.
