Beloved social media creator Avery, known as "Avery the Poke Kid," passed away at 12 after a long fight with cancer. His parents shared a personal Instagram post about their final moments together. Read on to discover the full story!

Parents' goodbye

Christian Garcia and Rebecca Rosa-Valentin wrote that their son "passed away suddenly" at 7 p.m. They said Avery had recently moved to hospice care and that a routine hospital visit turned into a last family moment on the rooftop garden, where they held him, kissed him, told him they loved him and watched him take his last breath.

His long battle

Nearly eight years ago Avery was diagnosed with pancreatoblastoma, a rare malignant pancreatic tumor most often seen in young children. He endured multiple surgeries and radiation and had entered hospice care on prior occasions; his parents announced a return to hospice on Sept. 17 to be together as a family.
